The Cleveland Browns have acquired third-year starting safety Ronnie Harrison in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars that will bolster the secondary.

The Cleveland Browns have made an attempt to shore up their secondary with a trade for the Jacksonville Jaguars safety Ronnie Harrison. Harrison is being sent over for a fifth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Harrison, only entering his third year in the league, is coming off of a 2019 campaign that saw him start all 14 games he played in. In his first year as a regular starter in Jacksonville, Harrison racked up 71 tackles, two sacks, and two interceptions.

Harrison joins a list of growing Jaguars players over the last few days who have been cut or traded by the organization in an apparent overhaul of their roster. The two most notable names who left the team were running back Leonard Fournette who was released by the Jags and just recently signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While the other player is someone the Browns had been rumored to be interested in acquiring in defensive end Yannick Ngakoue. Ngakoue ended up with the Minnesota Vikings. Fournette and Ngakoue were considered two of the biggest names on the Jaguars team, a team that has been radically overhauled since the went to the AFC Championship Game in 2017.

Harrison will now give the Browns a potential new starter and depth after the loss of 2020 second-round pick Grant Delpit. Delpit ruptured his Achilles during camp and his prognosis of an eventual return is murky at best. Achilles injuries are very difficult and often times can be career-ending.

The Jaguars have been moving pieces rather frequently as of late. With names like Calais Campbell, A.J. Bouey, Jalen Ramsey, and Dante Fowler all having left the team since 2018. Complaints of a culture problem exist with the Jaguars and this is apparently their option to fix it.

Still makes the signing of Joe Schobert a questionable one, if they’re rebuilding, why throw money at a star linebacker when he’s the only thing you have to build around? Here’s hoping Schobert can help the Jags reach respectability sooner rather than later.

As for the Browns, now they just need to shore up their defensive line, linebacking corp, and corners next.
