CB Prince Amukamara

Some cornerbacks just keep getting shot after shot in the NFL for no rhyme or reason. Some deserve it, some don’t. Some are so consistent, but never truly outstanding, that you’d be surprised at what they’re capable of doing even later into their careers. Not powered by otherworldly athletism, but intelligence and cunning. Their peak is never as high but their dorp off is never as far.

That’s the idea behind signing Prince Amukamara, you’re going to get one of the best examples of that in the NFL, or at least was at one point. An upgrade over some on the Browns roster, Amukamara was drafted by the New York Giants and spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Chicago Bears from 2011 to 2019. While never going to a Pro Bowl, Amukamara was one of the better corners in the league for some time.

He has admittedly lost a step or two but the Browns have a whole gaggle of unproven, newish names to the league. Guys like Greedy Williams are still too young to know what the ceiling is for him and veterans like Kevin Johnson are starting the season off with some serious issues medically.

A guy like Amukamara would be able to come in, start if needed and play nickel and dime coverage in the interim. He’s never been known as a lockdown type of guy but he should be able to handle the third and fourth string receivers the AFC North has to offer. Add on his affordable contract and his leadership and experience; he’s a steal.
