The Cleveland Browns have given Kareem Hunt a two- year extension that will see the runningback stay in Cleveland until the 2023 offseason.

The Cleveland Browns have extended the contract of running back Kareem Hunt for another two years, Ian Rapoport reports. The deal will see Hunt get $13.25 million in total, spread across both seasons. No further details on his contract are known as of yet. Hunt, a backup behind incumbent Nick Chubb, is expected to see various amounts of playing time in 2020, and most expect it to be more as a pass-catching running back out of the backfield.

Hunt started his career in Kansas City with the Chiefs, but an off-field fight with a drunk teenage woman saw his time in Kansas City come to an end. There are many who believed that Hunt was released more for his lying about to Chiefs officials after the fact and not the act itself. Either way, Hunt was a free agent and was suspended by the league.

Cleveland picked him up in 2019 and folded him into the offense, giving incumbent Chubb reps off throughout the second half of the year.

In Hunt’s first year with the Kansas City Chiefs, he put up a total of 1,882 yards and 11 touchdowns. For just passing yards, Hunt put up 455 yards that year. In his second year, he put up 1,202 total yards in just 11 games, with 14 touchdowns. Had he played all 16 games at the pace he was on, he would have had similar numbers (est: 1,748 total yards, 20 TDs) as his rookie year.

He didn’t play all of 2019, playing in just half the games, but in his relief role, Hunt still put 464 yards and three touchdowns. Hunt will now be able to see what he can do in a Cleveland uniform across 16 games in 2020.
