Baker Mayfield maybe had his most impressive game of his Cleveland Browns career in the 34-20 handling of the Washington Football Team.

The Cleveland Browns have a big reason to celebrate on Sunday beyond their victory over the Washington Football Team; Baker Mayfield has shown he can truly play well in Kevin Stefanski’s offense. On Sunday, Mayfield threw 23 passes and completed 16, the same numbers he posted against Cincinnati on the Thursday night game. That night he had 219 yards, on Sunday, however, he had only 156 yards.

Despite having less yards, he made better plays. Mayfield tossed another two touchdowns on the year; one to Kareem Hunt and one to Harrison Bryant (the first receving touchdown of his career) On top of all that, he had no turnovers for the game. He did take two sacks and one pass was dangerously close to being picked off by the Washington Football Defense, all in all though a good game by Mayfield.

In his post game presser, Mayfield was unburnded by the events of the game, with a seemingly calm demenor. When asked about his performance and how he felt about today’s game, Mayfield was very percicise in his response.

"I could’ve played better."

His ownership of the mistakes, what few he made, is exactly why people believe that Mayfield is starting to show his maturity in year three.

Mayfield’s play against Washington may seem like an equatable performance against the Cincinnati Bengals but the Washington Football Team’s defense is much, much better. While Mayfield didn’t crack 200 yards and did get sacked twice, he also threw two touchdowns, completed just under 70% of his passes and led the team to it’s biggest win in a while.

Mayfield is currently completing 62% of his passes for the year, which is actually a wonderful sight to see after his 53.8% performance against Baltimore. He has thrown for 564 yards, five touchdowns, two interceptions and has only been sacked four times through three games.

A far improvement over his first three games of 2019 where he had completed only 57% (rounded up) of his passes, had just three touchdowns, five interceptions and had been sacked 11 times.

Mayfield has shown that he’s improved, he’s also shown that the offense works. While Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt are two of the cogs that make this offense go, Mayfield is very much as integral. He works in what the team is doing.
