The Cleveland Cavaliers may not be sold on the Darius Garland and Collin Sexton backcourt tandem according to Chris Fedor.

Chris Fedor thinks the Cavaliers may be looking elsewhere when it comes to the combo of Darius Garland and Collin Sexton. The two former top-10 picks by the Cavs have long been the subject of much discourse during this past season. If Fedor’s claims are true, it’s very possible that the Cavs could move on from one in the offseason.

Fedor of Cleveland.com had this to say on the subject;

"Not to mention Collin Sexton and Darius Garland, statistically two of the league’s worst defenders this past season, will be playing big minutes. The Cavs aren’t fully committed to the Garland-Sexton backcourt yet. They need more time to evaluate the pairing, recognizing the many circumstances that went into Garland’s rookie-year struggles. But it’s hard to see the two undersized guards working unless the Cavs surround them with quality defenders. That’s what Toronto, Portland and Indiana, among others, have done. Forget scheme, it’s a personnel issue."

Fedor points to three teams that have largely made two smaller guards work, with the Toronto Raptors winning an NBA title with two smaller guards and having a strong follow-up season in 2019-2020.

It’s very possible that the Cavs elect Garland as the pick to move on from. Sexton has shown tremendous scoring talent and has a lot of hustle, while Garland didn’t show much of anything in his rookie year. If the Cavs were to move one, Garland makes the obvious pick.

There’s also the possibility that either Garland or Sexton moves to the bench as the teams sixth-man but that’s still completely up in the air. For many, Garland will remind them of what could’ve been, as the Cavs took him over NBA Finals star Tyler Herro.
