The Pittsburgh Steeler and Cleveland Browns rivalry date back decades but we’re looking at five of the most hated Steelers from just the last 20 years.

Let’s not fool ourselves. We try to be respectful here at Factory of Sadness, and the Pittsburgh V Cleveland rivalry is more in fun than it is a religious war, but to say we like the Steelers is wrong. To say we respect them is even more of a stretch. Sure, we may not actually “hate” the Steelers and its fanbase (it’s only a game after all), but we can come as close to hating the franchise and fanbase as one can without actually hating them.

Maybe we “super-mega-loathe” them? That seems accurate.

To be fair, the hate for the Steelers has buried in the depth of the Browns own ineptitude. Had the Browns been better ran since 1999, maybe the feud wouldn’t have died down. Maybe the Browns wouldn’t have two winning seasons in 21 years. To be fair, it’s not like this wasn’t bound to happen. Karma and all that.

After all, it was the Browns who were the bullies of the rivalry for 40 years, give or take. It’s only the last 20 where the Steelers have managed to take over the lead and control the narrative. By all historical accounts, the Browns are the better franchise. More titles, more icons, longer spans of dominance.

The Steelers had a few years in the ’70s, that one year in the ’90s, and the last 20 years. Mostly because the Browns were just a garbage fire of a franchise. That has changed, and the one-sided bullying has turned back into a full-on fight. Those 20 odd years were hard, and it developed a deep disdain for certain Steelers players, and for that reason, we’re going to look at the five most hated players from the organization since 1999.
