Cleveland Cavaliers: What’s realistic on draft night?
What’s realistic for the Cleveland Cavaliers draft night?
The 2020 NBA Draft will finally take place Nov. 18 and the Cleveland Cavaliers still own the fifth pick, although it’s been heavily rumored the franchise would like to trade the selection.
Assuming the Cavs keep the pick, Cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor sees Cleveland choosing between Isaac Okoro, Devin Vassell, Patrick Williams, Onyeka Okongwu, or Obi Toppin, Deni Avdija, Killian Hayes, Tyler Haliburton “leftovers.”
Fedor wrote that considering Chicago’s current roster, the Bulls, who pick fourth, will take one of those four players.
Fedor contends there’s reasons to take each one of these places, while at the same time, there’s a case to be made against each one, too. With that in mind, Fedor mentioned trading down as an option.
The rumors leading up to the draft have the Cavs trading either Collin Sexton or Darius Garland, but if Cleveland holds onto its two top picks from the past two seasons, Koby Altman has made it known that the makeup of the current roster won’t take the Cavs out of the running for a player at the same position. Bottom line: They’re trying to find the best player available.
Based off the rumor the Cavs were really hoping for James Wiseman, I think Onyeka Okongwu, a 19-year old out of USC will be the Cavs pick.
Cleveland really liked James Wiseman and even acquired Andrew Drummond to see what the team would look like with an established player who has the same skillset as Wiseman.
However, with Wiseman likely gone at No. 5, Okongwu could become the pick. He’s 6-10, can rebound and averaged 2.7 blocks per game. Plus, like Drummond, he doesn’t shoot the 3.
Elsewhere around the draft, it doesn’t sound like LaMelo Ball will even meet the Cavaliers. The prospect has met with the Timberwolves who own the first pick, and is expected to meet with the Warriors, Bulls and Hornets as well.
