Jose Ramirez has added a Silver Slugger to his mantle after an impressive 2020 season that saw him be announced as a top-three MVP candidate.

Jose Ramirez was the Cleveland Indians MVP this season, no question about it, but as he waits to see if he can pull off a Major League MVP award win, Ramirez will get some good news in the way of the Silver Slugger awards, as he took home the 2020 AL Silver Slugger award for third basemen.

This marks his third win of the award for the position. In the Covid-19 shortened 2020 season, Ramirez still posted impressive numbers, hitting .292, 17 home runs, and 46 RBI’s. An impressive stat line considering in 2019, Ramirez hit 23 home runs and 83 RBI’s in more than twice as few of opportunities. Had Ramirez played a whole year at the rate he was hitting, he would’ve had 47-48 home runs, 128 RBIs’ and 171 hits on the year. That’s not a bad rate of production.

With three years left on his deal, the team is his with reports that the team will be moving on from Francisco Lindor this offseason. Despite the two playings together, Lindor never achieved the same heights as Ramirez with regards to offensive production or MVP qualifications. Lindor has never finished in the top four of MVP voting, while Ramirez has finished in the top three a combined three times.

It’s important to keep Ramirez, who when healthy, can be one of the five best hitters in the American League. At just 28, Ramirez has the ability to make a name for himself as one of the club’s all-time greatest players.

If Rameriz wins the 2020 MVP, then it’s entirely possible he enters the conversation as one of the greatest Indians players of all time. With a win, he’d be the first Indians player since 1953 to win the award, when Al Rosen secured the award.
