The Cleveland Browns have defeated the Houston Texans and some extreme winds to advance to 6-3 in a game that showed what this team can do.

Despite what the commentators tried to say the Cleveland Browns really showed up against the Houston Texans on Sunday, winning 10-7 in a game that was affected severely by extreme weather. The game was delayed nearly a half-hour due to a severe thunderstorm and wind that came through the area. The storm would disperse quickly after the start of the game, but the wind wouldn’t let up the rest of the game.

The wind affected both quarterbacks dramatically, with Baker Mayfield completing 60% of his passes and Deshaun Watson completing 66%. Watson struggled as much as Mayfield but one late-game drive, with a hail-marry like a throw, was what put Watson just slightly ahead of Mayfield. Neither quarterback broke 165 yards passing.

The game was decided on the ground, something that was hard to get going for either team through the first half. Kareem Hunt looked explosive for the first time all-year and moved the chains while Nick Chubb returned to action; albeit slowly. Chubb and Hunt would each have their own big plays, combining for 230 yards of their 231 team yards (Mayfield had the other yard).

Chubb struggled for the first three quarters but did score a touchdown to start the fourth. It wouldn’t be until the last drive of the game, however, where Chubb finally broke some big plays. He secured the game for the Browns with a 59-yard run that ended short of the endzone on purpose when Chubb went out of bounds.

The decision allowed the Browns to kneel down on the next play and end the game.

Myles Garrett had a big first half, getting half a sack, and stuffing a 4th down attempt. He finished the game with a season-high six tackles. While he didn’t “make” many plays in the second half, he started spying on Watson more, helping contain the dynamic Houston quarterback. It was also insinuated that he may still be dealing with nagging leg injuries.

The Browns have the 3-5-1 Eagles next week, who have been one of the worst teams in the league all year.
