In Cleveland Indians rumors, the  Mets have requested permission to interview current Tribe GM Mike Chernoff.

There’s not a fan of the Cleveland Indians out there that doesn’t have a complain about thew ay the Cleveland Indians operate. Must of that frustration is aimed at ownership and their fiscally conservative reputation.

But there’s no doubting that the Indians have been one of baseball’s most successful franchises for much of the 2010s, as the Tribe made five trips to the postseason and came with a game of winning a World Series in that span.

Even after the pandemic cost the team “tens of millions” of dollars, the Indians are expected to contend because of their ability to draft and develop high-level starting pitching.

Long story short: The Indians are consistently good and don’t own one of the game’s top payroll. You better believe other teams take note, which is why it’s no surprise the Mets have requested to interview Mike Chernoff for their president of baseball operations position.

It’s basically the role Chris Antonetti plays with the Tribe now, meaning Chernoff would have carte blanche over  massive payroll as new owner Steve Cohen seems to finally turn the Mets into a winner.

MLB.con’s Jon Morosi, who reported this nugget, also pointed out how the Mets are also one of the team’s expected to be a suitor for Francisco Lindor. Chernoff wouldn’t have the resources to keep Lindor on The Corner, but he’d have plenty of cash to entice Lindor to play in Flushing.

Would he trade for him, or wait for him to hit the open market? That’s something only time can tell.

Next. What's Lindor's trade value right now?. dark

Speculation surrounding Chernoff going to the Mets has long been speculated. He’s from New York and his dad is a senior vice president for a company that oversees famed New York sports talk radio station, WFAN.
