Browns: Baker Mayfield is keeping things light with quotes from the Office
By Chad Porto
Baker Mayfield is quoting comedies after recent Browns victories, with this week seeing him drop a line from the hit NBC show, The Office.
The Cleveland Browns are riding high at 9-3 and are embracing a bit of their whimsical side. From stories of Nick Chubb only ever talking during a game if his teammates bring up Marvel comics, to Baker Mayfield dropping a quote from Anchor Man after the team’s win in Jacksonville in Week 12. This team is finding ways of keeping the pressure off their shoulders. This week, during the post-game press conference, Mayfield made sure to get in a cheeky quote from the hit NBC show, The Office.
Mayfield, who was talking about the game, quoted the Office’s Dwight K. Schrute when talking about his decision making. Quoting the character, Mayfield said, “Whenever I’m about to do something, I think, ‘Would an idiot do that?’ and if they would, I don’t do that.”

The quote comes from the third season episode, “Business School”.
While quoting comedies may not make every fan happy, after all, there are actually people that think Matthew Stafford is an upgrade over Baker Mayfield, the fact is that this is better than what we’ve been used to. Usually, post-game press conferences were about why the team lost and who to blame. There was little reason to celebrate or be happy after most Browns games these last near three-decades. So if the most news Mayfield makes off the field this year is his desire to quote things that he finds funny, then the Browns are sitting pretty.
Not only that, but it sure beats a war of words with media types who have bias’s against him. This year, Mayfield is having a career year. He’s 9-3 as a starter with 2,442 yards passing with 21 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He’s completing 63% of his passes on the year and has shown his value time and time again this year.
If Mayfield wants to crack a joke or quote a movie during his post-game victory press conferences, I say go for it.
