Browns get snubbed in Pro Bowl selection, only three players selected
By Chad Porto
Three Cleveland Browns have been selected as Pro Bowlers for the 2020 season, leaving at least four deserving players off the roster.
Cleveland Browns will have three players who get to call themselves Pro Bowl players in 2020. They’re pretty obvious picks, Myles Garrett, Joel Bitonio, and Nick Chubb. They all are deserving picks and are rightfully selected. That said, the Browns have at least four other players who deserved consideration, especially if Chubb made it.
The first two names that are left off are baffling and there’s no excuse for it. Offensive linemen Jack Conklin and J.C. Tretter have been playing out of their minds this season, combining with the rest of the offensive line to give up just 18 sacks all year. Third best in the NFL. To not include Conklin and Tretter is just flat out disrespectful considering their efficiency as a unit.
The next two names, Denzel Ward and Wyatt Teller are, rightfully, at first glance, not on the team.
Why? Injuries. Neither man has played a full season and both have missed at least three games. Chubb, who missed nearly five games, was still selected. Teller is the best guard in football and Ward is one of two secondary players who have played a majority of the season with the Browns to be any good.
If you can make an allowance for Chubb to make it, you should’ve done the same for Teller and Ward.
You could even make a case for Jarvis Landry, Baker Mayfield, and Kareem Hunt. Especially Hunt; how did Josh Jacobs become a Pro Bowler? With 3.7 yards-per-carry? Adorable. Derrick Henry (5.2) and Chubb (5.6) are the standard-bearers for running in the AFC. How did Jacobs make it but not Jacksonville’s James Robinson? I guess 10 touchdowns on poor efficiency equates to being good these days.
The Pro Bowl selection is an unmitigated and outdated mess. It’s time to reform how we select players.
