Browns: 5 Christmas presents the team gave us this year
By Chad Porto
The Cleveland Browns rebuilt themselves into a true powerhouse with a steady head coach, a great young quarterback, a stellar running back, and more!
The Cleveland Browns are in the midst of potentially their best season since the team’s return in 1999 and it’s all thanks to great quarterback play, a once-in-a-life-time offensive line, a stellar running back, and a coaching staff who knows how to bring out the best in their players.
The only issue with this season, besides the defense and the time-management against Baltimore in the rematch, is that this resurgence is happening when the team can’t have a packed stadium every home game. Even though attendance has been limited, those who have been there have added a lot of energy and it does come through at home.
Those issues are really the only negatives for the year, but let’s look at the more positive side of the situation.
These are the five Christmas gifts we’re thankful for from the Browns in 2020.
Baker Mayfield’s ascension to a Top 10 quarterback
This may ruffle some feathers, but believe it, Baker Mayfield is playing like a Top 10 quarterback. Sure, he has to finish the year at this rate of production and has to show up in the playoffs to formally have that label stamped on him, but there’s a lot of fate in that happening. Especially with the way he’s played for Kevin Stefanski.
Nick Chubb, that’s the gift
Nick Chubb has 5.6 yards-per-carry for the year and 5.2 yards-per-carry for his career. He’s the best pure runner in the NFL. He’s the best runner at the position. Don’t bother arguing.
Kevin Stefanski’s dull and predictable personality
Said with all the respect and love we can muster. After years of the Butch Davis, Eric Mangini, Hue Jackson, and Freddie Kitchens types in Cleveland, it’s great knowing that your head coach is going to be professional and take responsibility for the failings of his team. It has been 360 days since a player has been thrown under the bus at the workplace.
10 wins
For the first time since 2007, the Browns are a winning team and have 10 wins to their name. The team did a great job this year and gave the fans something they haven’t had in a long time; hope.
3 Pro Bowlers
Myles Garrett, Nick Chubb, and Joel Bitonio all got to the Pro Bowl this year. The only issue with them going, is that they should have had at least three others going with them.
