The Cleveland Browns need all the help they can get defensively and the Mock Draft from Touchdown Wire has nailed their pick.

There’s a new mock draft by Touchdown Wire’s Mark Schofield that has the Browns taking arguably the best fit for the team at the 22nd spot in the 2021 NFL Draft. Assuming this thing shakes out as predicted, it won’t but let’s pretend, that means the Browns would take a Zaven Collins, a linebacker out of Tulsa. Collins isn’t just a linebacker, no, he’s whatever you need him to be.

During his college career, Collins has played at defensive end, inside and outside linebacker, and at cornerback. That’s the key to success in the NFL, have adaptable players who have skillsets that translate to a variety of positions. Here’s what Schofield wrote in his article;

"Cleveland Browns: Zaven Collins, LB, TulsaVersatility is critical for today’s NFL defenders, and if the Cleveland Browns are looking to add a versatile defender on their second level that they can play all over the field, they should stop after watching Zaven Collins. Tulsa asks a ton of Collins in their defense, and he almost always answers the call. Jordan Reid of The Draft Network has done a lot of work on Collins and loves what he sees:“One of the best aspects about Collins’ game is his ability to play on both the strong and weak side, but he’s also capable of providing pressure off of the edge as a defensive end and blitzer in interior gaps. In a league that asks a lot from second-level defenders, he’s more than serviceable at multiple spots. This has been seen often throughout the season as the Golden Hurricanes defense deploys him from a multitude of platforms.”"

Schofield also shared this tweet chain, that shows everyone just what Collins has done and what he can be expected to do at the next level.

This is the type of player the Browns need. He’s athletic, got great awareness, and can tackle. Not just that, if the Browns do make some trades or big-time signings at specific positions, you can move him around to any number of spots, even at safety. After all, if you can play corner, you can play safety.

With the wholes on defense being many and deep, this is the type of player the team needs in order to really put out a team next year who can deliver on both sides of the ball, not just on one.

Here’s hoping that Collins falls to the Browns late in the draft.
