Cavs: Andre Drummond has historic night and 3 other things from Knicks win
By Chad Porto
The Cavs defeated the Knicks on Friday behind the 30/20 night from Andre Drummond, the shooting of Cedi Osman, and great team defense
The Cavs defeated the Knicks 106-103 on Friday, behind Andre Drummond doing something no one has done in 17 years; dropping 33 points and 23 rebounds. Drummond was the first Cavaliers player to achieve such a feat since Carlos Boozer. It was a two-man show, with Cedi Osman going off for 25 points on 50% shooting from the floor, and 5-of-9 from three-point. The two men, combined with stellar team defense was all it took for the Cavs to defeat the Knicks.
They are now 6-7 on the season.
All it took because that’s all they had. A smattering of MVP chants at Drummond rang out as the closing seconds ticked away
Larry Nance and Isaac Okoro were instrumental in getting the win as well, with Nance’s hard-nosed defensive mentality being a key reason for the Cavs win.
Let’s break it down further.
Cedi Osman has a shooting night
How good is Osman? He needs more opportunities, because man, when he’s on he’s on. He shot 50% from the field, dropped 25 points and five assists. His work in the half-court and in transition was so impressive.
Andre Drummond is not gone yet
The idea of trading Drummond, when he’s been this good, is baffling. He posted yet another 20-point, 20-rebound game, and while recently acquired Jarrett Allen may be young, he’s not on that level of Drummond, at least not yet. Drummond’s too valuable to this team to trade away. Especially since he’s the first player since Carlos Boozer to post a 30-point/20-rebound night.
Isaac Okoro and Larry Nance’s versatility
Isaac Okoro and Larry Nance aren’t going to be offensive dynamos for you, but watching them play you can tell they offer more than just their ability to shoot. They combined for four steals and three blocks on the night. That’s the type of play you’re going to want from them off the bench when this team is finally healthy.
Reinforcements can’t come soon enough
The team is expected to get some help next Wednesday when the Cavs return to the court in the form of Allen and Taurean Prince and they can’t come soon enough. The Cavs only played eight players on Friday, with most of the starters playing 35 minutes or more. The Cavs have no bench since the rash of injuries and with the arrival of Allen and Prince, the Cavs will finally have some help. Though what they really need was help at the guard spots.
