Cavs Top 3: Gary Trent Jr. destroys Cleveland, leads Raptors to blowout win
By Chad Porto
The Cavs never had a chance. The Cavaliers lost 135-115, falling to 19-33 on the season. Cleveland held a 2-0 lead to start the game and that would be their only lead of the night. The Raptors destroyed the Cavs behind Gary Trent Jr.’s career-making night. Trent went 17-19 from the floor, 7-9 from the three-point line, and 3-3 from the free-throw line for a grand total of 44 points. Trent also had seven rebounds and four assists.
Malachi Flynn also had a career night, posting 20 points and 11 assists.
For the Cavs, a bad defensive night was again on the menu. Unlike other nights, however, this time it didn’t matter how the Cavs played defensively, the Raptors weren’t missing. On the night the Raptors shot 62% from the floor and wrecked the Cavaliers at every chance. So it really didn’t much defensively.
More so the game played out as a weird-bizarro game, with the Cavs dominating the third quarter and nearly closing the gap. Generally, the Cavs play their worst basketball in the third quarter.
Outside of the top three performers, Dean Wade (14 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists), Kevin Love (18 points, 3 assists) and Taurean Prince (10 points) were the other big contributors.
Top 3 Game Performers
1 Point – Darius Garland
Despite getting shaken up near the end of the game, Darius Garland had a good offensive night, matched only by how bad he was defensively. Garland finished with 19 points and eight assists.
2 Points – Isaiah Hartenstein
For Isaiah Hartenstein, the trade to the Cavs couldn’t have gone better. He’s been an absolute wrecking ball of brutality in the low post and has shown passing skills that aren’t that common for a big man. Hartenstein finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, and six, yes six assists.
3 Points – Collin Sexton
Collin Sexton went 10-20 from the floor, for 29 points and finished with five assists but like Garland, couldn’t do much in the way of slowing down Trent.
