Round 3, pick 89, Alim McNeill, NC State, DT

Grade: B+

Why the Browns cut Sheldon Richardson makes all the sense in the world. His production didn’t match his salary. That said, he was still a solid-to-good player and by just cutting him loose, the Browns are probably worse off.

Factor in the Browns letting Larry Ogunjobi walk in free agency, and defensive tackle just became a huge position of need, which makes me wonder if the’d take Christian Barmore in the first round. (In Brugler’s mock, Barmore went 22nd to the Titans).

Cleveland will likely move their front four around, meaning Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney will find themselves lining up on the inside, but still, most of their snaps will come at their bread and butter position on the edge.

It’s expected Andrew Billings will return to the mix after opting out of 2020, while second-year veteran Jordan Elliott returns after enjoy some successes as a rotational player as a rookie.

McNeill primarily played nose tackle in NC State’s three-man front, but the 6-foot-6, 320-pound behemoth is a marvel at taking on blockers and with guys such as Myles Garrett on the field, that’s exactly what you’re looking for.
