Franmil Reyes posts a stat-line for the Indians that few expected to close the Yankees series.

Yes, the Indians are struggling at the moment, but we’re not here for that at the moment. No, we’re here to talk about the good. We’re here to talk about the absolute bonkers day by Indians DH Franmil Reyes in the final game of the Yankees series. The day was anything but normal for the Indians DH, who stands at 6’5 and anywhere from 265 to 275 pounds. A little less meat and he’s a defensive end, a little more meat and he’s a defensive tackle. He’s a big guy, that’s what we’re saying.

So when you get told that a man that size, had a stat-line that read 3-4, with a home run, a triple, and a stolen base; would you believe us? No, we didn’t think you would.

The stolen base kicked off the insanity in the bottom of the second, with Jordan Luplow at the plate, working with an 0-1 count. The Yankees catcher dropped a pitch but Reyes was already sliding in by the time anyone knew what happened.

Reyes stole a base. His first in the career. One down and only 1,405 more to go until he catches Ricky Henderson. Seems possible.

The home run ball was not nearly as impressive as the stolen base or triple, mostly because it barely got out of the field of play but Reyes still sent it into the right-field seats. Granted, just making it.

Sitting on a 3-1 count in the bottom of the sixth, with a 5-3 lead, the Indians DH slugged a shot straight to the wall. Nearly hitting a home run, the ball ricocheted off the wall and rolled away from the Yankees outfielders, allowing Reyes to run, albeit slowly all the way to third base.

This is a day that fans will remember from Reyes because it’s so out of the realm of the expected. A couple of doubles, a home run, and three RBI’s, sure. That makes sense. A stolen base, his second triple in the series, a home run, and three RBI’s? Sure, if you’re Mike Trout.

Not if you’re Reyes.
