Cavs Top 3: Isaac Okoro has career-high but Cavs lose in short-handed effort
By Chad Porto
Cavs rookie Isaac Okoro had his best scoring night yet as a pro.
The Cavs looked awful tonight, partly due to the fact that Collin Sexton, Isaiah Hartenstein, Larry Nance Jr., and Matthew Dellavedova all sitting out of Monday’s game with various injuries and alignments. So when the final came the Cavs obviously lost, 112-96. Kevin Love looked foolish, and we’ll talk more about that on Tuesday, Cedi Osman looked lost, Darius Garland couldn’t get things going but of all people; Isaac Okoro had a nice night.
The rookie forward dropped 20 points, a career-high on 50% shooting. He finished the night with 20 points and six rebounds but also had a nasty 1-8 night from three-point land. Okoro can score in transition and work his way into the paint to get points, that’s not up for debate, the problem is that he can’t shoot. Anything outside of 10 feet and Okoro is really lost.
A career mark, however, is worth celebrating.
Unlike Osman and Love, who went a combined 5-18, for 17 points. Osman’s inconsistency strikes again, and at one point Love appeared to just give up at one point during the game. Really poor timing on his part.
For the Raptors part, Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby both had big games, finishing with 45 points between them.
Top Three Game Performers
1 Point – Jarrett Allen
Jarrett Allen had a nice game, 15 points, seven rebounds but defensively he got torched. Then again, so did the entirety of the Cavs rotation, so what’s new?
2 Points – Darius Garland
Double-doubles get you pretty high on these lists. Despite having a mediocre night scoring, and a bad night from three, Darius Garland did put up a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. If this is the floor for Garland, things are looking sturdy.
3 Points – Isaac Okoro
Isaac Okoro gets a rare place at the top of the list. Okoro is awarded the coveted three-point spot, and just to remind everyone, the points awarded to the players in these articles do get calculated with the person with the most points being the team MVP. Okoro probably isn’t going to win it, as Garland and Collin Sexton are at the top of that list. Okoro though was pretty dang good tonight, even though his three-point shot didn’t fall all and the team got rocked defensively. Sometimes you just have to look for the good in the bad.
