Draft day is here for the Cleveland Browns and all of Northeast Ohio, as rain-drenched day awaits the dozen or so prospects that are scheduled to show up to hear commissioner Roger Goodell call out their names.

And with the draft just hours away, the speculation train is showing no signs of slowing down.

1. Draft Eve’s evening hours featured a fresh mock from PFN’s Ben Allbright, who had the Browns taking a a prospect out of left field the casual observer probably had never heard of  (at least as far as fans and media are concerned).

2. ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Grossi (subscription) stuck with a familiar name, though, mocking Alabama defensive tackle Christian Barmore to the Browns with the 26th pick.

3. Grossi, who is banging the drum for the Browns to take a corner, reasons that Barmore might be the best defensive player available by the time Cleveland prepares to send in its pick. He’s not ruling out a trade, keeping in mind that GM Andrew Berry has been aggressive ever since taking the job.

4. Patrick Surtain II (10, Dallas), Jayce Horn (15, Pats) and Greg Newsome (21, Colts) are all off the board by the time the Browns pick, while Grossi had Caleb Farley falling out of the first round (based on medicals). Plus, for the first time, Grossi had Asante Samuel Jr. creeping up into the first round, going 28th to the Saints.

5. Grossi thinks Farley would not be an option at at 26 because the Browns already have two corners with injury troubles in Denzel Ward and particularly, Greedy Williams.

6. Grossi made mention, before he started his mock, the belief that whatever the Patriots do in the first round will “indirectly” impact what Cleveland will do. Would picking a corner at No. 15 make veteran corner Stephon Gilmore available via trade?

For what it’s worth, Allbright had the Pats trading for the eighth pick and selecting Ohio State’s Justin Fields.

7. Grossi could see the Browns trading up, but noted Berry won’t mortgage the future.

8. If Berry can’t get a corner in the first round, and Barmore is the best available, Grossi wrote trading up in the second from the late 50s is something the Browns may have to consider.

9. The top three quarterbacks off the board are Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson and Mac Jones. I find Jones’ rise incredible. Unicorn TE Kyle Pitts goes to the Falcons fourth while the Bengals go with Oregon OT Penei Sewell over Joe Burrow’s former college teammate, WR Ja’Marr Chase.

Jaylen Waddle goes seventh to the Lions, Fields eighth the panthers, and Trey Lance to the Broncos rounds out the top nine.
