Cavs Top 3: Kevin Love completely goes cold in sad loss to Wizards
By Chad Porto
The Cavs lost to the Wizards in one of Kevin Love’s worst career games.
The Cavs continue to find new ways to struggle to close out the 2020-2021 season. The Cavaliers lost to the Wizards 122-93 that saw Kevin Love not take a single shot and Darius Garland leave the game due to an ankle injury. The Wizards guards dominated Cleveland’s perimeter defense, exposing flaws in the team’s defensive capabilities.
Isaac Okoro had an awful night, posting a game +/- of -13, and being unable to slow anyone down. Even Russell Westbrook, who’s shooting near-career lows from three-point and career-lows from the free-throw line, torched the Cavs all night.
Bradley Beal is again proving why he’s an elite guard, carrying the Wizards during their current winning streak. Overall the Cavs had no defensive intensity, and without Garland to lead the offense, and with Sexton handling more ball-control duties, had one of their worst passing games of the year.
Top 3 Game Performers
1 Point – Darius Garland
Despite only playing 20 minutes, Darius Garland still had 12 points and three assists, along with the second-best game +/- of the night for the Cavs.
2 Points – Collin Sexton
He led the team in points with 22, but Collin Sexton only landed this spot due to the lack of available candidates. Sexton has proven time and time again this year that defense and passing will never be things he excels at, which is a problem for a ball-dominant guard. His three-point shooting continues to be awful as well, going 1-6 from behind the arc. The Cavs are going to have to make a tough decision with him.
3 Points – Jarrett Allen
Jarrett Allen had a nice game as well, posting a double-double, with 13 points and 11 rebounds, alongside a block. Allen continues to find his form after returning to action after a concussion and looking largely lost for a few games.
