The Browns defined the 2021 NFL Draft by demanding versatility and got it with Demetric Felton.

The Browns have made it clear they want guys who can handle multiple responsibilities and got it with the selection of Demetric Felton with the last pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Felton, a WR/RB combo out of UCLA, will more than likely fill in on special teams as a returner but with Donovan Peoples-Jones and Ryan Switzer on the team, the pick makes very little sense if that’s the main reason.

The pick is going to be one of debate for weeks to come, as Penn State defensive end Shaka Toney was still on the board and was in a position of need throughout the 2021 NFL Draft. Perhaps they think they can sign someone, or maybe they’re moving back into the draft but taking a return man in the draft is never a good sign.

Drafting Demetric Felton is a confusing selection.

Demetric Felton has the ability to line up in the backfield or in the slot and that’s a nice trait to have. Yet, he’s not in a position of need, nor does his versatility matter as much as with Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, because the Browns are plenty stacked at receiver and running back. So his selection doesn’t hold the same weight.

It may be a sign of things to come, that may help the pick make sense if the team intends on trading a receiver or two. If they don’t, it’s going to be a contentious pick, since the Browns never once addressed the defensive end spot in the draft.

Sure, no rookie defensive end would’ve been a starter but with how much they invested in preparing for down the road, it would’ve made sense to do that at end as well.

He also isn’t very fast, and his athleticism is, at best, average for an NFL player. He may be the best player from this draft, who knows? On paper, there were better options.
