Indians: Getting no-hit twice in a year has to be the catalysis to make moves
By Chad Porto
The Indians were victims of being no-hit twice so far in 2021.
The Indians suffered their second game of the year where they were held hitless for all 27 outs. The Indians are one of just 18 teams in the history of the major leagues to have such a dubious record. Luckily though, that isn’t always a sign that the team is bad. Joe Noga of Cleveland.com states that four of those teams had success and got to the postseason anyway.
As it stands, Noga claims the Indians have been victims of a no-hit game 15 times in their franchise history.
Luckily, the no-hit games came at the start of the season, when the offense is admittedly still in flux. Most fans agree that the offense will look different by the mid-season break and that new faces will eventually join the ball club. Possibly one Albert Pujols?
The second no-hit will be the catalyst for some changes to the lineup.
The Indians have been hitting the ball rather well over the last few weeks, which is what makes the no-hit game so baffling. The Tribe are 9-3 over their last 12 and have been averaging nearly 5.0 runs per game (4.8) in that span.
Yes, Roberto Perez is out for a long time, but outside of one year, he’s never been a huge bat for the Tribe’s offense. So yes, it’s better now than in August, after all the moves had been made.
While the Triple-A season is only just getting underway, this may be the wake-up call the Tribe needs to start making some serious moves. Names like Bobby Bradley, Nolan Jones, and even Bradley Zimmer should be candidates for a call-up.
Not just that, but pursuing Pujols or maybe looking at going and getting a familiar face in Jason Kipnis could be a move the Indians look to make. Even if no free agent is acquired, the Tribe should at least begin to seriously evaluate names like Yu Chang, Jake Bauers, Amed Rosario, and Andres Gimenez.
