The Browns are not interested in Aaron Rodgers are sticking with Baker Mayfield.

Take a deep sigh of relief, Browns fans. Baker Mayfield isn’t going anywhere; which many will be happy about. Some won’t be, but hey, you can’t please everyone. Despite ESPN, FS1, and other shock-jock “analysts” trying to will Aaron Rodgers to be traded to the Browns for the sake of their 24/7 news cycle, Cleveland isn’t having it. The franchise has effectively shut down the talks about what they should do as a franchise, as opposed to what they will do.

Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot wrote a piece claiming that the Browns are “all in” on Baker Mayfield and aren’t interested in going out to get Aaron Rodgers. She cites a few reasons, namely

Baker Mayfield can get the job done.

Over the second half of the season, Baker Mayfield threw for 20 touchdowns and three interceptions across the regular season and the playoffs. This isn’t new, he had impressive numbers as a rookie. So we know Mayfield can get the job done. He just needs to be in a consistent environment.

The Browns fully believe that he’s the quarterback who will take the team to the next level and why shouldn’t they; the team was one tackle away from possibly being in the AFC Championship Game, and that was in a year the team had no defense to speak of.

There’s little reason to doubt the Browns can’t win with Mayfield, especially with the team that he has around him going forward. Sure, things can change dramatically in a moment but sitting here in May, this is the right course.

Rodgers is still one of the two best quarterbacks in the league, but Mayfield is getting closer and closer to that top-10 category. He had a top-10 season in 2020, and another strong performance from him in 2021 will solidify him as a top-10 quarterback in the NFL.

It takes more than a great quarterback, however, to win a Super Bowl. Peyton Manning only won two, Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers only had one. Fellow Hall of Fame-bound quarterback, Phillip Rivers, never even got to one. So it’s not just on Mayfield to get there, it’s on the organization as a whole.

They feel that Mayfield is the man, even if only for today, and that’s good enough for most fans, who are tired of the carousel of quarterbacks from the last 20 years.
