Cavs’ guard Colli Sexton was ejected against Brooklyn in the season finale.

The Cavs capped off their 2020-2021 season in predictable fashion with Collin Sexton being ejected after playing just 20 minutes in the 123-109 blowout loss against the Nets. The third-year guard was given a flagrant two-foul, which is an automatic ejection for hitting Kevin Durant in the face. The call was a fair one, as Sexton looked more like Jiri Prochazka at the time of the foul, using his elbow to rip through Durant’s defense.

At the time of the foul, the Cavs trailed 12, 82-70 with 6:14 to go in the third quarter.

The rest of the team was unable to generate enough offense to close the gap or even keep the pace. Isaac Okoro, Dean Wade, and Damyean Dotson did their best but the team was just out-manned at that point. Cleveland not having a combined seven players who were both starters and key rotation guys throughout the season didn’t help the team’s odds.

Injuries plagued the Cavs all year.

Top Three Game Performers

1 Point – Damyean Dotson

Filling in for the injury-depleted Cavs, Damyean Dotson went 7-9 from the floor, 3-5 from behind the line for a total of 17 points, while chipping in three assists.

2 Points – Dean Wade

The emergence of Dean Wade was a pleasant surprise for the Cavs, filling in for Kevin Love and Larry Nance as needed. He had a nice game offensively with 18 points and eight rebounds but he was torched all day on defense. Kind of expected at this point. Four of the five Cavalier starters posted a real plus-minus of -13 or worse.

3 Points – Isaac Okoro

It’s hard to say that Isaac Okoro deserves to be on an All-Rookie team, as the season isn’t just the second-half but both halves. That said, Okoro has gotten better in the latter half of the season. He went 6-16 against the Nets and finished tied with a team-high 18 points, matching Wade’s night.
