The parents of Cleveland Indians prospect Owen Miller were faced with the ultimate scheduling dilemma over the weekend.

Keep to the plan and attend the high school graduation of son Noah in Wisconsin, or call an audible to attend the MLB debut of older son, Owen?

The Millers made their way  to Cleveland, with Owen saying his brother was “Perfectly fine” with missing his chance to officially end high school with his class.

As the dad of five kids, I had one of those, “Oh, shoot,” moments when I read about the Miller’s conundrum.

Cleveland Indians: What to do?

You only graduate from high school once, but you only make your major league debut once, and it’s something very few people in the world get to experience.

Noah’s willingness to miss the event probably made the decision easier. That said, I payed the scenario out with my kids, who turn into Pulitzer Prize winning historians when it comes to remembering which of their baseball games I had to miss because I attended the game of one of their siblings, instead.

Either way, it was a special weekend for Millers, but now, they’ve got to stick around The Land to see Owen get his first hit.

Miller went 0-for-5 in his MLB debut with three strikeouts. He was thrust into the DH role, which opened up after Franmil Reyes suffered an injury on Saturday. If the pressure was on Miller to get the lineup cranking, it’s really on now, as the Tribe lost one of its best hitters in Reyes.

Hopefully, the Indians continue to play Miller everyday and give him the chance given to Jake Bauers. The first baseman has been given two months to show he can hit, and we’re still waiting.

Besides DH, Miller can help at short at second. He’s only played one game at first in the minors. He also played a game in left field with the Columbus right before his promotion. k

It’s a miracle the Indians have the record they do at this point, but things are looking grim in the near future. There is no instant fix for losing Reyes, and the back end of the rotation is a mess. They dropped three of four to a below average Mariners team, and then lost two of three to the Twins. Everybody’s been beating Minnesota lately, that is, except the Tribe.

Next. No instant fix after losing Franmil Reyes. dark

Cleveland could use a little luck. Hopefully it comes in the form of Miller, because even the tiniest of sparks may be what it takes to finally get the team on a roll.
