Cavs Awards

Most Valuable Player -Collin Sexton

Despite the fact that he plays defense like the Titanic was “unsinkable”, Collin Sexton put up some impressive point totals at times. Sure, his style is maddening, he doesn’t shoot threes as often as he should and it’s impossible really build a team around him at this juncture in his career but someone had to win the award. So, yay?

Defensive Player of the Year -Jarrett Allen

Jarrett Allen is a good defensive player. He’s not $25 million a year good, but he’s good. He did a good job at times guarding the paint and if the team can lock him in for about $10-13 million less than what he is expected to get while bringing back Isiah Hartenstein, the Cavs may just be good defensively at center for a few years. Good, but not great.

Rookie of the Year -Isaac Okoro

It was either Isaac Okoro, who shot like a blind dog auditioning for Air Bud, or Dylan Windler who…shot like a blind dog auditioning for Air Bud. Lamar Stevens also was a candidate, as much as a guy who played 12 minutes a game and averaged four points could be.

Sixth Man – Cedi Osman

Who else was it going to be? Larry Nance Jr. had as many missed games as he did steals for the season, while Dean Wade was so wildly inconsistent with his usage that you’d think he was insulting J.B. Bickerstaff’s mother on a regular basis. Osman had a bad slump for about two months but finished off the year playing very well, rejuvenating talks of him and his “potential”.

Most Improved – Darius Garland

He was the statistically worst player in the NBA in 2019-2020. He wasn’t in 2020-2021. That’s all the reason you need.
