Cavs Trade Rumors: Kevin Love is back on the trading block, again
By Chad Porto
The Cavs are again trying to trade Kevin Love.
There appears to be a developing trade market for the Cavs former All-Star forward, Kevin Love. With minimal top free agents going to be available this offseason, teams like the Clippers and Heat are seemingly interested in the veterans’ service. Sam Amico himself listed the Heat as a destination to watch out for.
As the Cavs are in need of cap relief, trading away Love, who hasn’t been close to what the team needs at the moment, makes a lot of sense.
The problem comes from the fact that the Cavs were apparently not interested in moving on from him come to the end of the regular season. Now that tune has changed, however, now that there is word that other teams may be interested in taking on Love’s contract.
Other teams reportedly interested in him besides the Clippers and Heat include the Trailblazers, the Pelicans, and the 76ers.
Cavs don’t have to get much back for Kevin Love as long as they get cap relief
The Cavs need to move on from him and open up their financial flexibility. It’s part of the reason why the Cavs should avoid giving $50 million to Jarrett Allen and Collin Sexton at the same time. The Cavs have not been great at drafting or trading for talent with none of the pieces acquired really helping the Cavs turn the corner; so to speak.
With rumors of at least five teams interested in Love, the Cavs should bite on an expiring deal first and hope they get a nice little add-on player in the deal. While Love’s assumed versatility would be hard to replace no matter who you get back, the fact that he averages 34 games a year over the last three years would suggest you’re not losing much.
Guys like Dean Wade can do what Love can, maybe not at the same level, but at a more frequent pace.
Losing Love will suck, but the relationship between both sides has become too strain to continue going.
