Cavs 2021 NBA Draft: Jalen Green too special to pass up
Appearances suggest the Cavs will have the opportunity to select a franchise altering player with the No. 3 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, however, whom exactly that is will remain a debate until the stage is set and the commish reads the card.
Here’s some interesting tidbits that have been revealed over the past few days…
1. Jalen Green fell to Cleveland in The Factory’s first mock draft, but it might be wishful thinking. He’s the best small forward/shooting guard prospect in the class, and the NBA is more of a wing’s league than ever.
2. Former NBA player and current G-League coach Brian Shaw recently commented on Green’s potential, and he gushed how Green has “it,” much like other young players who came into the league. He cited Kobe Bryant and Paul George.
3. Imagine Green in the lineup alongside Jarrett Allen, Larry Nance Jr./Kevin Love (If he’s not traded), Isaac Okoro and Darius Garland. Some sports chatter had Green’s scoring ability compared to that of Kevin Durant. Interesting, but keep in mind Durant’s about 7-feet tall. Green’s G-League page lists him at 6-6.
4. Yes, Collin Sexton was omitted. I’m open to a trade, but I’d love to see if the former eighth overall pick can make good as a super sixth man. That said, the demotion could make him grumpy considering he’s playing for a contract.
5. Back to Green: I really think Green’s stock is going to take off leading up to the draft. If it happens and he goes No. 1 or 2, The Cavs can take solace in taking big man Evan Mobley. There are some duplication of skills there with Allen, but they can play together. Think the new Twin Towers.
6. ESPN’s salary cap guru Bobby Marks recently appeared on WKNR/850 AM. He noted how that the gap between presumed No. 1 pick Cade Cunningham isn’t all that far from Green or Mobley.
