It’s fair to say that Odell Beckham and some other Browns players have passed their peak.

Our sister-site over at Dawg Pound Daily posted an article where they listed five players who have already peaked talent-wise. Once you peak, the only way to go is down, and that’s a not-so-mean way of saying that these five players are past their prime. Especially when you think of Odell Beckham Jr.

The Browns have a great roster, but these five specific players that were listed, Beckham, Jarvis Landry, Joel Bitonio, J.C. Tretter, and Austin Hooper all have something big hanging over their heads. For Landry and Beckham, it’s those massive injuries they sustained over the last few years. For Tretter and Bitonio it’s the wear and tear on their aging bodies. Then for Hooper, it’s his lack of production.

It’s not unfair to suggest that these five players may all be nearing the end of the line with the Browns, safe for Hooper who’s locked into a really bad contract.

Bitonio is 29 turning 30, Beckham is 28 turning 29, Landry is also 28 turning 29, Tretter just turned 30, and all of them are hitting that age in football where guys fall off.

The concerns for four of these players are very really

Hooper being over the hill might be more of a stretch to get to than the others. His lack of production could have been linked to half-a-dozen other outside factors. So that one doesn’t feel earned. For the others? There’s some real concern that we’ve seen their last best years.

Landry had the worst year of his career coming off of major hip surgery. Maybe he can return to form but more than likely we’ve seen the last of his Pro Bowl days. That doesn’t mean he’ll fall off completely, but it does mean that the Browns getting all of this young receiver talent isn’t just happenstance.

For Beckham, him being “done” as an elite receiver is something that’s been discussed on this site for two years. Even in his last two 1,000 yard seasons with the Giants and Browns, Beckham was no longer the big playmaker he used to be. He played more like his friend Landry did, by grinding out yards and not exploding for huge plays.

For Bitonio, he did have the best year of his career with the Browns, but as he’s turning 30 with close to two decades of football on his body, what will he look like in 2021? I see this the same way I see Landry, that even if he does “fall off” some, it won’t be so drastic. Maybe both men will need new contracts but they would still be starters.

As for Tretter, there have been rumors of him possibly retiring after the 2021 season. He’s arguably the least impressive of the four men on this list and has a lot of options that exist outside of football.

It’s very possible that all four of these guys either have cheaper deals or are flat out gone come 2022.
