Indians: Watch Bobby Bradley hit walk-off home run against the Royals
By Chad Porto
The Indians did it again with another walk-off home run, this time from Bobby Bradley.
Summer nights rarely get better than this. The Indians were 42-42 after a nine-game losing streak heading into Thursday night’s game against the Royals. The teams were tied four-all in the bottom of the night, with two on and Franmil Reyes at the plate. Two pitches later, the Tribe had snapped a skid. On Friday night, Bobby Bradley had his shot.
Triston McKenzie started the game and pitched what could easily be his best game of the season. The 23-year-old went seven innings, with nine strikeouts and only one walk; showing that same kind of talent that made him a guy to watch during his 2020 season. The Tribe only scored one run during McKenzie’s seven innings but it was enough for a 1-0 lead. A lead that Emmanuel Clase couldn’t hold.
Eventually, James Karinchak was able to lock down the Royals in the ninth, sending the Tribe to the bottom of the inning tied 1-1 and with a chance to walk away winners. Bradley came up first, and on the fourth pitch put the ball deep into right-center field for the game-winning home run
The fun didn’t end with the Indians walk-off home run
For those who don’t remember, Indians in-game reporter Andre Knott nearly got an ice-bath last night after Reyes hit his streak-breaking walk-off home run. During the post-game festivities where Knott was interviewing Bradley, the young slugger grabbed the Indians in-game reporter and held him so Oscar Mercado and Daniel Johnson could properly soak Knott with a post-game celebration.
The exhilaration and illation the team showed after another exciting win really gives people hope that the “fun” is back in Indians baseball. Under Terry Francona, this team has always been the most dangerous when they were having the most fun. Whether it was the Goon Squad in 2013, the 2016 rallying cry of the “Party at Napoli’s” or the insanity that was the 2017 regular season; this squad does its best work when it’s playing loose.
