Browns: 5 players who could have a breakout year in 2021
By Chad Porto
Grant Delpit
Remember Grant Delpit? He’s going to make sure you don’t forget him again. Well, here’s hoping to him trying to do just that. Delpit missed all of 2020 due to an Achilles injury that really wrecked him. It’s taken him a year to come back, but we don’t even know what he’s going to be coming back as. Will he be the same highly-touted second-round pick that he was, or could he just end up being another major liability in the secondary?
The starters at safety right now look like John Johnson and Ronnie Harrison but Delpit could easily sneak his way into the starting rotation. Harrison didn’t overly impress last year, though he did help bring some stability as the team’s best safety. Considering he was a third option for the Jaguars, Harrison over-delivered for the Browns.
That doesn’t mean he’s a star in the making, in fact, Harrison serving as the third-best safety on a team is probably his best option. So Delpit is going to need to be healthy and productive. That’s part of the reason why the Browns didn’t go in on anyone other than John Johnson, the Browns hope they already have the other starter on their team.
Now granted, the Browns did draft two linebackers who could play safety and will get reps there, but that’s more for versatility reasons. They weren’t drafted to be one of the two primary safeties.
