Cavs: The only acceptable Collin Sexton to Knicks trade we could come up with
By Chad Porto
The Cavs would make bank on the Knicks, and rightfully so
We’re pulling out the big guns on this one. Firstly, Collin Sexton is a better offensive player than R.J. Barrett, so that’s obvious. The team would also demand back Immanuel Quickley to help offset the talent loss by Sexton. The team would also send over Kevin Love and Taurean Prince to help the Knicks replace some of their departing talents.
Then of course the added piece of this puzzle is the four 2021 draft picks the Knicks would have to give up. Barrett will be a fine player, and Quickley a good sixth man, but the Cavs are giving up three potential starters for a starter and bench player, and two guys who won’t see action. There needs to be more there to grease these wheels.
Enter the draft picks. The idea would be to use the 19th and 32nd pick to move up into the top-15 and try and snag a shooter like Corey Kispert. The picks help complete the puzzle of equal value for the Knicks and Cavs. Since Sexton is better than anyone the Knicks have on their own, you need a pretty enticing offer to move on from the man people call “Young Bull”.
It may seem like an overreach for the Cavs but when you think about what other teams got for guys, it’s the new normal.
While you look at the Anthony Davis trade and screech about how the Cavs shouldn’t expect to get anything back at that value, we should point out that the Lakers gave up far better talent than the Knicks have to even offer. Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball are heads and shoulders better options than Barrett and Quickley.
So yes, the Cavs should absolutely expect a massive haul back for Sexton. Sexton is clearly better than Barrett and Quickley, and it’s not even a debate.
