2. Cleveland Browns defense: Even the backups were good

The Browns defense is getting a lot of run leading up to the season…as it should. They added some notable players in the offseason, and the key ones, didn’t even play (John Johnson, Jadeveon Clowney).

Plus, Myles Garrett and Denzel Ward didn’t play, which is the right call. Kevin Stefanski went with the reserves, as he should have.

And the backups delivered.

1. Joe Jackson flew off the defensive line to stuff a Jaguars rushing attempt. He didn’t make the tackle, but he caused enough of a delay to allow Malcom Smith and Jordan Elliott to clean up the tackle.

2. Yeah, you read here about some comments about Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah not being ready to start as a rookie.

Word had to have gotten to the rook, because he looked like a man possessed on his first-half sack.

One thing very noticeable about JOK: Speed. He flew through the defensive line on the play. Credit to Joe Jackson, as well, who got a hand on Gardner Minishew’s shoulder to set up the sack.

It was a good game for Koramoah, as he almost blocked a punt and then was usually in and around the action throughout the game. He was credited with six tackles (two for a loss).

3. Sheldon Day got to Trevor Lawrence for a sack and fumble (recovered by Lawrence) on the Clemson’s product first snap in an NFL game.
