Browns: 5 most likely to be cut after this week’s game
By Chad Porto
WR JoJo Ward
The Browns didn’t want to put part ways with Ryan Switzer just yet, that’s beyond clear. They placed Switzer and tight end Stephen Carlson on the IR after the Browns’ first preseason game against the Jaguars, but had they not been placed on IR it’s unlikely the Browns would’ve cut him, or Carlson. It seems the Browns wanted to explore some more talents, especially considering that fellow receiver Anthony Schwartz is also injured and one of the Browns’ biggest names, Odell Beckham Jr., has an injury history that has affected him throughout his career.
The team signed JoJo Ward this week, just days after Ward was released from the Cardinals after the first week of cuts. Ward had a nice run at Hawaii, pulling in just 116 receptions for 1,999 career yards for the Rainbow Warriors, but Ward isn’t expected to make the team. It seems plausible that Cleveland wants to see what he can do and possibly add him to the practice squad for 2021, as well as padding out the roster for the next two preseason games.
With the names ahead of him, like Beckham, Schwartz, Jarvis Landry, KahDarell Hodge, Rashard Higgins, Donovan Peoples-Jones, as well as the other guys vying for practice squad spots, Ward’s tenure with the Browns may not be very long at all.
