6 things Cleveland Browns did right, wrong vs Giants in preseason win
6. Got it right: McLaughlin looks legit.
Since the end of the game, it’s come out how Cody Parkey wasn’t able to make the kick because of a quad injury. He had attempted, and was successful on his extra-point attempt earlier in the game.
You can’t stave off injury, but this isn’t good news for Parkey.
Cleveland finally got the chance to attempt a long field goal–49 yards out–at the end of the fourth quarter. It seemed like the perfect time to let Cody Parkey try a deep one, which is something missing from his game.
With Parkey unable to answer the bell, Stefanski sent out Chase McLaughlin to take the kick. The boot was good, going toward the Dawg Pound end zone, no less, and probably would’ve been good from 59 yards.
Now, the pressure’s really on Parkey, unless of course, because while I think his job is safe, he has to be available.
For what it’s worth, Parkey finished out the practice week strong, making all five of his kicks at the end of Friday’s joint practice session.
He hit on a long of 48-yards, according to ClevelandBrowns.com writer Andrew Gribble.
