Cleveland Browns S Grant Delpit

He played. That’s reason enough to send his stock up, right? Fortunately, Delpit’s play left us wanting to see more.

We all though the steal of the 2020 draft felt us in the second round and then thought we were robbed when he suffered a season ending injury in training camp.

He then missed time at camp this past summer with a hamstring injury and then couldn’t answer the bell against the Chiefs in the season opener.

Patience is supposedly, still a virtue, and that was true with Delpit against the Texans. The safety played 26 snaps, according to Pro Football Focus, and he contributed the Browns lone sack of the day.

It wasn’t just a sack though, it was a hit you’ll be seeing highlights of all week. Overall, Delpit had four tackles.

Joe Woods is drawing a ton of heat for some lackluster defensive play earlier in the season and it’s warranted. But it’s worth noting that the defensive coordinator would love to deploy a three-safety look.

To successfully run it the way he wants to, though, Delpit needs to be a part of the package. So when Woods talks about the continued process of the unit needing to gel, afford him a little more time.
