Cavs: An anonymous NBA scout called Collin Sexton an “a–hole”
By Chad Porto
One NBA scout had the temerity to call Collin Sexton an “a–hole”.
I put my name on all my work. I don’t think Collin Sexton is a $25 million a year guy. I think Kevin Love needs to get his house in order and stop with the outbursts. I think Koby Altman has barely done enough to keep his job. I think Kevin Porter Jr. is going to nerf his career eventually and the trade for the Cavs was a good thing. I put my name on things. I don’t respect people who don’t.
Give someone a story, gotta get the truth out, sure. There are reasons to give anonymous quotes. I support the idea of anonymous quotes because they are usually about facts not feelings. The minute you insult someone, the minute you make it personal, is the minute I demand you put your name on it.
Most would agree, not this NBA scout, however. In a Sports Illustrated preview of the NBA season, one anonymous scout went full scorched Earth on Sexton, saying;
"I think Collin Sexton is a backup and an a–hole. None of his teammates like him. I like Darius Garland. I actually like Garland. I think he plays hard. He puts pressure on you because he can shoot, he can pass, and he’s a much more willing passer. He’s not out there trying to get his f–k–g stats and go home in the same way Sexton is."
That scout has no business passing judgment on Collin Sexton
Honestly, that quote is one of the most disrespectful things I’ve ever read about an athlete. To be clear, I don’t have an issue with criticizing guys, especially those with felony complaints against them. I have a problem with unprovoked, personal attacks, however. This quote reeked of a personal issue with Sexton, which seems odd, because how many NBA scouts actually have relationships with NBA players past the draft process?
Especially when they play on opposing teams. For what? Sexton’s never been in trouble with the law and really isn’t a magnet for controversy. So what’s the issue?
Talk about a bad take. We’ve heard rumblings of issues in the locker room, and some of it has pertained to Sexton, but it was always from the point of view that Kevin Love had issues with people, supposedly Sexton. Not that the locker room had issues with him.
Maybe more hilarious than trying to understand a grown person’s mentality for taking potshots at a young man that they really don’t know, is the fact that the scout said that the team was on the right track until they gave up on Andre Drummond. Drummond, the dude who tanked so bad in Los Angeles, that he had to take a backup gig in Philadelphia for 10 times less than he was making the season before.
That’s a pay cut of 90%. This scout should probably find a new line of work. Maybe in a public relations firm, perhaps?
