Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield didn’t get his big contract extension following this game, but he’s back to trending in the right direction.
Without Odell Beckham Jr. on the field, Mayfield was free to explore the field around him, most notably connecting with Donovan Peoples-Jones on the type of vertical pass we’ve been waiting half a season to witness.
Mayfield’s made those throws before…just not this season, coincidentally (or not?) with OBJ on the field.
Mayfield’s performance was what the coach would’ve drawn up for his quarterback in his game plan. Mayfield got to play with a lead, thanks to Denzel Ward’s pick-6.
Mayfield threw the ball just 21 times, completing 14 passes for 218 yards and two scores. He didn’t turn the ball over. He was 4-of-5 on passes that traveled at lest 20 yards through the air.
Winning cures all, and the Browns can move on from the OBJ noise, at least for another week until Cleveland
