Hysteria is fueling new NFL Mock Draft that picks Baker Mayfield’s replacement.

The Baker Mayfield hysteria has reached full-stupid. Mayfield, who is playing behind one of the worst offensive lines in the game currently, with a broken and torn shoulder, and most of his playmakers either being old or injured, is apparently so bad that one CBS sports writer is suggesting the Browns blow up the team and draft a quarterback, in the first round

A move of this nature outright nerfs every move the Browns have made over the last four years and would force Cleveland to move on from most of their star players, as it resets the clock on the expected competition.

The expectation that a rookie quarterback can just come in and succeed is a lie. It’s an outlier. It’s a rarity. Most rookie and second-year quarterbacks don’t succeed in the NFL. For every Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger, there’s a Sam Darnold or a Teddy Bridgewater. Guys who don’t move the needle.

That hasn’t stopped CBS SPort’s Ryan Wilson from suggesting that the Browns should take Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett in the first round; despite the team’s biggest issues being far from a quarterback.

"This is controversial, we get it. But if the Browns don’t want to pay Baker Mayfield north of $35 million a year on a long-term deal, they could look to the draft. Pickett has been lights out this season and has ascended from Day 3 pick to likely hearing his name called in Round 1."

Baker Mayfield has proven he can win, he just needs talent around him

The Browns have no elite wide receivers and this guy is telling the Browns to draft a quarterback because that’ll improve things? Want to know why Joe Burrows and Justin Herbert looked so good so early? Look who they’re throwing to.

Look at who Mayfield is throwing too currently. A third-round pick who can’t run routes, a sixth-round pick who’s a sixth-round pick for a  reason, and a former Pro Bowler that had a career crippling hip injury that he will likely never return to form from. Yet, it’s Mayfield’s fault. Mayfield played great as a rookie, and again in his third year. Yet, the injuries mounted around him. Heck, he’s got a broken and torn shoulder and is completing more passes than ever before.

It’s his fault apparently that his receivers can’t get open? The Browns invested in the offense as much as they did in the draft because they knew they didn’t have playmakers. Don’t tell me about how good Landry is, because that’s not true anymore. He’s beyond slow and is no longer reliable to make the catches he needs to.

The Browns need an elite receiver who can stretch the field. This is something they don’t have and desperately need. Give Mayfield a target like the one Josh Allen got, and watch how the offense evolves. Mayfield’s not turning the ball over, nor is he making bad decisions, he just doesn’t have any talent around him.

Replacing him is the wrong decision. This team was overrated on name-valuing alone and too many people wanted to believe that guys like Kevin Stefanski and Andrew Berry were genius.

They weren’t. They’ve hindered the team’s development. Somehow, that’s on Mayfield. It’s baffling that people think it’s that easy to get a quarterback as good as Mayfield. Even if you don’t think he’s “great”, do you know how many NFL teams would love Mayfield right now? A proven winning quarterback who can win in the playoffs?

This is flat-out hysteria and it needs to stop.
