Rating 8 free-agent outfielders tied to 2022 Cleveland Guardians
Maybe Cleveland Guardians can sign him
OF Kyle Schwarber: The Athletic’s Jim Bowden acknowledged Schwarber was among the second tier of outfielders on the free-agent market, meaning the Guards might be able to afford him.
Schwarber was a 3.2 WAR player last season, batting .266 with 32 homers and 71 RBIs. He had a $11.5 million mutual option that wasn’t picked up. I think he thinks he can get more. the Guards should have an influx of cash with everyone buying new merchandise this winter, but it will be enough pay Schwarber $15-$17 million?
OF Seiya Suzuki: No, you probably don’t know the name because he’s played in Japan and is set to be posted in the Major Leagues after he finishes his current season before the end of the month.
What’s “posting” mean? CBS Sports compared it “posting” to the NCAA transfer portal. Suzuki has 30 days to negotiate with MLB teams. If he doesn’t come to terms with anyone, he returns to Japan.
Someone will sign him. He was a five-time All-Star in Nippon Professional Baseball, posting a career slash line of .315/.415/.571. Plus, he has the exit velocities that today’s stats demand. He’s also considered a plus defender.
MLB Trade rumors projects Suzuki to sign a five-year, $55 million contract. The Tribe should be able to swing $11 million per season, although, the length of the contract comes with risk considering Suzuki doesn’t have an MLB track record.
