Evan Mobley is returning to the Cavs vs. The Magic.

Not since Batman in the 1989 classic has anyone arrived at the most perfect time to save the day. The Cavs have dropped five in a row, and all five of them have been heart-breaking affairs. While the Cavaliers are far from playoff contention in regards to time from the playoffs and the number of games out, they can’t afford to keep losing tight games. Getting rookie Evan Mobley back is exactly what the team needed.

With Collin Sexton out for the year, Cleveland needs to lean into what was helping them win games before; defense. Having Mobley back on the court with guys like Jarrett Allen, Ricky Rubio, and Lauri Markkanen will only help things. The Cavs dropped five in a row to fall to 9-10 on the year, with the most recent heart-break coming at the hands of the Phoenix Suns, who the Cavs nearly beat.

The team’s defense has taken a hit without Mobley but not a significant one. It’s not so out of whack that Mobley can’t come in like Batman himself and save the day.

Evan Moble’s return couldn’t have been better timed for the Cavs

Mobley will make his return against the Orlando Magic on Saturday night, a game that Cleveland should be able to get the win in. After that, however, the hits keep coming as Cleveland has to face off with Dallas, Miami, Washington, Utah, and Chicago. All playoff-bound teams, all near the top of their division.

After that, the Cavaliers get some easier games, in theory, with Minnesota, Sacramento, and Houston but the Cavs really don’t have any more than a few games here or there of softer competition. They’re going to need Mobley to play his very best from here on out and avoid injuries on top of that.

The team has overproduced lately, and players like Kevin Love and Cedi Osman are not only contributing but earning the right to have more minutes and more shots. Mobley’s return coincides with a team that’s surging in his absence and that combination may take the Cavs back over .500 heading into 2022.
