1. Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield

Losing this game doesn’t squarely fall on the shoulders of Baker Mayfield. The Browns actually had a passing game! If you consider 18-of-34 successful, that is.

But OK, there’s the obvious: Baker’s dinged up, there’s play calling issues, there’s offensive line issues, his receivers are dropping balls, no one can stretch the field…there’s a little it of blame to go around everywhere.

That said, in looking at Mayfield, we’re still looking at a quarterback who needs everything to be perfect to enjoy success and when you’re contemplating whether or not you should pay someone $40 million per season, I think you have to take that into consideration.

Alas, I think we’re past the extension issue for this season. The Browns will probably pick up the option and watch a healthy Mayfield in 2022. That’s fine.

At some point, though, we’d all love to see Mayfield overcome his team’s shortcomings and it’s not a big ask. It happens in the NFL all of the time.

Just look at the Ravens and Lamar Jackson. They didn’t look like Super Bowl contenders Sunday night. Lamar Jackson was awful, throwing four interceptions. However, he made the play of the game that you’ll be seeing on highlight reels for the rest of season.
