Yeah, the Browns’ offense needs to get nuts.

‘Tis the season for some outlandish ideas. The Browns‘ offense is limping to the finish line for a variety of reasons. Injuries to the quarterback, its receiver corp, and offensive line have not been helping things any. The lack of improvement to key players, like Donovan Peoples-Jones, Harrison Bryan and Jedrick Wills has also seen the team not take the steps forward it’s needed.

Coupled that with the disappointing rookie seasons of Demetric Felton, Anthony Schwartz, and James Hudson, and it’s really no wonder why this team fell flat on its face so far this year. Never underestimate what one injury to the offensive line can do to a team, as this whole thing fell apart when Jack Conklin got hurt.

Now, this is where I have to eat some crow; I wrote that any linemen can look good in Bill Callahan’s blocking scheme. No, they can’t. Chris Hubbard’s loss has been monumental. Hubbard would have filled in for Conklin if Hubbard had been healthy. He isn’t, which meant that Blake Hance was forced out to right tackle. Hance did very well as a guard in 2020 but has struggled as a tackle.

These are huge reasons why the offense has fallen off. Though not the only reasons. The receivers have not been good either, even when Odell Beckham was here, and the team’s lack of speed has nerfed a lot of potential that the team had.

So how do you salvage this season with three games to go? You get weird, of course.
