4. Browns potential Baker Mayfield backup: Andy Dalton

I’ve compared Mayfield’s career to that of Dalton, with the exception being Mayfield has one playoff win. Dalton got to the postseason six times, but was never able to win.

The point is that in his prime, Dalton was the 15th, 16th, 17th best quarterback in the game. Not great, but too shabby, either.

Dalton appeared in seven games with the Bears this last season, and threw seven scores against seven picks. It must be pointed out, though, that Chicago was one of the worst teams in the league.

He’d be a slight upgrade over Keenum and while no one would look to replace Mayfield with the Red Rifle, Dalton would probably gain some fans with his ability to stand in the pocket and make some throws.

Ultimately, Dalton isn’t the guy who’s taking you to the Super Bowl, but he has a bigger resume than Keenum, having led the Bengals to the playoffs many times, as previously mentioned.

He’d be a veteran presence the team could always turn to should things falter with Mayfield, and as we see right now, there’s no guarantee No 6 figures it out in his fifth year.
