Deshaun Watson – Everything

The fact that anyone and I mean anyone, wants this guy saddens me. He’s a pest. He’s got serious emotional issues that should disqualify him from ever being on a football field again. It boggles the mind that despite the issues with Watson, there are fans who want him in Cleveland. It’s even more baffling that these same fans wanted to pass on Baker Mayfield for his arrest in college, and then even more people wanted to pass on him for “throwing” Kevin Stefanski under the bus in a late-season press conference this year.

These make him a “bad leader”. Fair, that’s not really a ringing endorsement.

Yet, Deshaun Watson is then the name some of these fans throw out, and we have to be clear about something; you can’t be mad at Mayfield for being upset during a presser and wanting him gone, but then be cool with Watson’s behavior.

Let’s also be very clear here; it happened. He propositioned random women for sexual favors. He asked random strangers, whom he had just met for the first time, to do things to him sexually. This isn’t a debate. You can’t go “oh well let’s let the facts come out”, he did it. His lawyer said he did it. There’s no debate that he asked random women, who arrived under the pretense of a legitimate massage, whom he had never met before in his life, to do things to him sexually for money.

That happened. It’s a fact.

The debate is whether or not it’s consensual. That’s not something we know about but a settlement offer is rarely offered by the innocent. What he did is problematic behavior. This isn’t a case where he had five beers and got a DUI driving home because he mistakenly thought he was fine. This is problematic, predatory behavior that has made him, in my opinion, untouchable as a trade asset.

You’re asking a fanbase to accept a trade for Watson that could cost the Browns two, three, maybe even four years worth of quality draft picks for a guy who will likely do the same thing again at some point in his life. No thank you.

How many Antonio Browns, Terrell Owens, Johnny Manziels do fans need to see before they realized that a pattern of problematic behavior doesn’t change if they’re playing football. The Browns need to avoid Watson like the plague.
