What might be Vikings asking price for Kirk Cousins in trade with Browns?
Speculation has it that the Cleveland Browns may be looking at Kirk Cousins to upgrade their quarterback position, and one name keeps popping up when the issue gets debate: Kirk Cousins.
The Vikings may hire Kwesi Adofo-Mensah away from Cleveland’s front office, and that, along with Kevin Stefanski being Cousins former quarterback coach and offensive coordinator will only add fuel to the fire.
TLOD’s Tony Grossi wrote that if the Browns did trade for Cousins, the organization would absorb up to $25 million of his $35 million contract for 2022. If it worked out like that, Grossi sees the price tag in a trade as being a third-round pick, in addition to a “conditional pick in 2-23 that could go as high as the first round.”
Grossi noted the range could get as high as what the Coltes had to ante up for Carson Wentz last offseason.
Cousins was 18-12-1 when working directly with Stefanski. He’s 15-17 in the two years Stefanski’s been in Cleveland.
If the Browns can upgrade the position, I’m all for it, I just don’t know if Cousins is the answer. He’s capable of putting up some fantastic numbers, but all that’s ever gotten him is a 59-59-2 career mark.
Kirk Cousins has average record just like Browns QB Baker Mayfield
It’s average, which is about what Baker Mayfield is (29-30), the big difference being is Cousins is 33 and makes a lot more money, and Mayfield is 26 and in the final year of his contract.
Perhaps Cousins needs the change of scenery so badly needed by Matthew Stafford, who has a career mark of 86-95-1 after spending most of his career in Detroit.
Cousins didn’t exactly play for the shining team on the hill when with the Redskins organization. With Minnesota, it was a better situation, but he never took the step up that he would after signing such a massive free-agent contract.
I’m not particularly excited about it, but Cousins has moved up to No. 1 on the list of players to replace Mayfield, in my book, anyway. The news of Adofo-Mensah possibly joining the Vikings will have the rumor mill burning so hot, we’ll all be making glass.
My guess is Stefanski sees a player who can hit those wide open receivers, and would make a change work.
Alas, time holds all the answers, but all we can do is wait.
