Cavs Top 3: Evan Mobley tops list for career-high despite short-handed loss
By Chad Porto
Evan Mobley sets career-high during the Cleveland Cavaliers loss to the Rockets.
The Cleveland Cavaliers were without Darius Garland once again, which saw the Cavs fall 115-104 to the Rockets on Wednesday. The team remains without Garland and forward Lauri Markkanen for the foreseeable future, and without Ricky Rubio and Collin Sexton for the remainder of the regular season and the mounting injuries are taking their toll.
Evan Mobley was the star though, setting a new career-high with 29-points against the Rockets. He finished with a double-double on top of the new career-high in points.
The Cavaliers started Brandon Goodwin, who had a great game against the Pelicans, but he failed to make much of an impact scoring the ball; though he did have eight assists and seven rebounds. Cedi Osman made another start and while he didn’t have 12 assists, he did finish with 13 points on 5-12 shooting, while hitting 50% from three.
The game didn’t just fall apart due to the injuries the Cavs are dealing with but due to the horrendous officiating that plagued both teams throughout the game. A lot of ticky-tack fouls were called in the first half, and then in the second-half, plays that were fouls in the half prior were no longer being called. It made for a very topsy turvy game, and a lot of players ended up having to play minutes due to the foul trouble many of the team’s starting five found themselves in.
The Cavs fell to 31-21 on the season, while the Rockets improved to 15-36.
Evan Mobley sets career-high in Cleveland Cavaliers’ loss.
Cavs Top 3
- Jarrett Allen
- Kevin Love
- Evan Mobley
The first point of the game goes to Jarrett Allen who had 11 points, six rebounds, and two assists in a game where he was plagued by some awful penalties early in the first half. The Cavs are clearly not a good enough team with several of its key guys out, and Allen isn’t the same force without Darius Garland to help him lob it up. Still, Allen did his best to keep the team in the game, especially with how horrid the officiating was.
While he shot poorly from three, Kevin Love earned the second set of points from the game for dropping 21 points and 13 rebounds. He had a double-double in the first half and was one of the few Cavaliers who wasn’t in foul trouble by the end of the first half.
Lastly and obviously, Evan Mobley gets the three points from the game. He set a career-high in points scored with 29 and shot really well from the floor, hitting 60% for the night, as well as 12 rebounds for the game.
