Cavs Top 3: Where does Caris LeVert fall after big night against Pacers?
By Chad Porto
Caris LeVert cracks the Cleveland Cavaliers Top 3 but where?
The Cleveland Cavaliers fell behind the Indiana Pacers early and often on Friday night, trailing the superstar-less squad 48-27 after the first quarter. The Cavs would then go on to out-score the Pacers in every other quarter of basketball, culminating with a 32-17 fourth quarter that would put the Cavs over the top for a final of 120-113 in one of the seasons best comebacks of the year. It was a team effort but credit goes to new franchise player, Caris LeVert, who got his first start for the Cavs in place of Darius Garland.
Garland was held out of action due to an ongoing lower back issue.
The Cavs also got bailed out thanks to a combined effort of Kevin Love and Cedi Osman, with both men hitting 50% from the floor and finishing with 14 points apiece. Dean Wade also continues to be invaluable to the Cavs, dropping 13 points, while fellow wing player, Isaac Okoro, had 10 points and a box+/- (BPM) of +11.
The Cavs move to 35-21 on the season, while the Pacers fell to 19-38.
Cleveland Cavaliers get big boast from Caris LeVert
Cavs Top 3
- Caris LeVert
- Rajon Rondo
- Jarrett Allen
Caris LeVert had a nice outing but showed his limitations scoring the ball, taking 19 shots but only two from behind the three-point line. He finished with just 22 points despite the volume of shots he took. He did shoot over 50% from the field though, so that’s not bad. He also wasn’t the same facilitator that Garland is, and one could argue that Rajon Rondo should be starting in the interim. Despite his 22 points, his game has some issues and that’s why he only gets the single-point.
Pulling down the two-pointer was in fact Rondo, who continues to be a spark plug of facilitation of the bench. In 33 minutes, he took just seven shots and made six of them. He finished with 17 points, six assists, and seven rebounds; with a BPM of +10.
The three-pointer of the game goes to Jarrett Allen, the real last All-Star. He finished with 22 points, 14 rebounds and went 6-6 from the free-throw line in a dominating performance.
