Want to be friends with former Cleveland Browns receiver Odell Beckham Jr.? Baker Mayfield might tell you: “Be careful what you wish for.”

It’s not a wonder Mayfield appeared shellshocked after OBJ’s dad took his life force with that infamous Instagram re-post four months back.

Mayfield said when pressed, “There’s no manual for this,” with “this” being a starting quarterback in the NFL.
The season dove off a cliff after OBJ’s exit, save for an unexplainable beat down of the Bengals in Cincinnati. An injured Mayfield played horribly and there was a sense from Cleveland media that the locker room was divided because everyone was seeing the same thing: OBJ was getting open, but Mayfield couldn’t find him.

The two have talked of being friends, yet OBJ revealed two days before the Super Bowl that they have yet to speak. That his dad re-posted the story while he was asleep, and that he’d like to speak with Mayfield to attain closure.

Ball in Odell Beckham’s court

Well, what’s the hold up here? The ball is in Beckham’s court, after it all, it was his old man who threw Baker under the bus. How about a call, “Pops went a little crazy, sorry man.”

Since they haven’t spoke, it doesn’t sound like they’re friends at all. Rather, they were two guys who were friendly—not friends—with each other from being in the NFL, who were forced together to attain a common goal.

Beckham got what he wanted and left Baker in the dust to rehab his shoulder. The QB’s stock has never been lower and many wonder if the Browns will move on from the former No. 1 pick.

Mayfield’s taken to a self-imposed social media hiatus, while Jarvis Landry still hasn’t addressed the press with a post-season re-hash. He showed up briefly on media day to praise Beckham.

Next. Kyler Murray trade seems unlikely. dark

There are two sides to every story, but all I can think when it comes to Mayfield and Beckham, remains, “With friends like these…”
